Dear Level 3 Classroom Teacher Association Member,
Invitation to Celebration Event
The Level 3 Classroom Teacher Association would like to celebrate another year of excellence in classroom teaching leadership and also welcome this year’s newly appointed Level 3 Classroom Teachers to the Association.
Date: Monday 28 November 2016
Time: 4.30-6.00 pm
Venue: Gould Centre Function Room, Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre, Selby Street, Churchlands, WA 6017
Come and welcome our new L3 colleagues and congratulate them as they receive their certificates. Network with each other and chat with those who lead and direct our profession. Special guests will include the Minister for Education, Peter Collier, and the Shadow Minister, Sue Ellery, the Director General, Sharyn O’Neill and the Executive Director, Workforce, Clifford Gillam. The State School Teachers’ Union of Western Australia, which is sponsoring the event, will be represented by Natalie Blewitt. The Teachers’ Mutual Bank, another valued sponsor, will also be represented and fotoworks will be supporting us by attending without charge to photograph the occasion.
This event provides an opportunity for all our members to meet informally with leaders of our educational system and discuss issues affecting us all, over champagne and canapes in the lovely setting of Herdsman Lake. It’s also an opportunity to talk about the Association to new Level 3s and share with them the importance of formally representing the views and interests of L3CTs through our membership, meetings and advocacy. Please RSVP to Celia.Elissegaray@education.wa.edu.au by Friday 18 November.
Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 29th October. Our Guest Speaker, Angela Rossen, gave an inspiring and beautifully illustrated talk of her work linking art and science, with many ideas for engaging students. She brought i-pads adapted for photographing and videoing specimens under magnification and attendees showed their interest by lingering well after the meeting closed…… Many thanks to Angela and to all who attended. The business end of the AGM resulted in the following appointments:
President, Celia Elissegaray; Vice-President, Fae Turner; Treasurer, Heather Anderson; Membership Secretary, Margo Whittle; Committee Members Natalie Blewitt, Jacqui Cole, Michelle Murphy and Rama Ramakrishnan.
Outgoing Committee Members Megan Ewing, Marg Manners and Kirsteen McCrory were warmly thanked for their service and contributions to the Association.
Meeting with the Executive Director, Workforce
The Association was represented by committee members Celia Elissegaray, Fae Turner and Heather Anderson at a meeting with Clifford Gillam and Christine Porter at the Department of Education on 1/11/2016. Issues discussed included the assessment process for aspirants, the work of L3s in schools and issues affecting school leaders, including Level 3 Classroom Teachers. The discussion was full and frank and covered the multiple challenges and constraints which affect our work. A summary of the discussion points will be posted on our website and our first workshop next year will provide an opportunity for all members to continue the conversation.
